Roanoke Chapter Smart Set hosts National Conclave

The Roanoke Chapter Smart Set hosted the Smart Set Conclave at the Homestead, Hot Springs, VA. “Welcome to a Virginia Phenomena, a Star Studded Weekend” was the theme the weekend of November 3-6. National members are still feeling the excitement from one of the most memorable National Conclaves.

Roanoke Chapter members initiated three new ideas for the Conclave, highlighted by chapter president and past national president “Chit Chat” and cocktails hosted by Roanoke Chapter Pres. Dr. Nancy Wilson, a Chapter Delegates Luncheon with all attendees and a Wine Tasting and Silent Auction.

The weekend activities kicked off Thursday night in high-rolling and exciting fashion with a Las Vegas Style show performed by Big Wen and Company from the Barn Dinner play “The Love Machine” out of Greensboro, NC. The fabulous performance perfectly set the mood for the Star-Studded Weekend.

On Friday the conclave attendees and delegates were shuttled to Garth Newel Music Center in Warm Springs, VA for a delightful luncheon, Wine Tasting and Silent Auction orchestrated by Roanoke’s own Smart Set member Helen Dean. The auction raised approximately $1,500 for the Bath County Animal Welfare Shelter. Four different Virginia wines for the staff at the wine shop in Hot Springs were served during the three-course lunch, complete with a dessert bar “to die for.”

Friday evening was a night of high fashion and the theme “Legging and Jeggings” brought out the best of fashions worn by the attendees who rocked and danced to music by Roanoke’s Domino Band.

Attendees started off Saturday with a scrumptious and delectable champagne brunch before a five-hour downtime whereby most used the opportunity to explore the beautiful resort, relax, play bridge, shop, get a massage and/or visit the Jefferson Pool.

Saturday night ‘Rubies and Pearls” was the theme and the Smart Set ladies painted the night red with a fabulous array of red attire. The band “Sweet Dreams” of Raleigh, NC provided soothing dinner music as everyone dined on Prime Rib. Door Prizes were given out that included accessories for those who played golf on Friday. The mood quickly changed as dance music ushered everyone to the floor and the night ended with the Smart Set National theme song.

Shake Up Your Wake Up” was the theme Sunday as a delicious breakfast consisting of the best Virginia ham served with southern red eye gravy proved to be a delightful first for many attendees.

Each day of the conclave was accentuated as attendees enjoyed afternoon tea in the resort’s “Great Hall” and “Pandora’s Den” (hospitality suite) that was well-stocked with plenty of great tasting food catered by Rita’s Meals, Greensboro, NC.

The Roanoke Chapter Smart Set continues to receive letters, thank you cards and notes from national members in gratitude for such an exciting and memorable conclave.
